Art and Design
At Hunloke Park, we offer a coherently planned sequence of lessons to ensure the children have progressively covered the knowledge, understanding and skills required in the National Curriculum for art and design. Our intent is to ensure all pupils produce creative, imaginative work. Children have the opportunity to explore their ideas and record their experiences, as well as exploring the work of others and evaluate different creative ideas. They will become confident and proficient in the techniques of drawing, painting, sculpting, collage, textiles and printing. Children will also develop their knowledge of famous artists, designers and craft makers. We also intend to provide the children with an understanding of how art and design skills transfer to the world of work and the possibilities open to them in the future.
The children have the opportunity to ask questions and demonstrate their skills in a variety of ways. Lessons will offer the chance for children to develop their emotional expression through art to further enhance their personal, social and emotional development.
Design and Technology
At Hunloke Park, Design and Technology (DT) offers a coherently planned sequence of lessons to ensure the children have progressively covered the knowledge, understanding and skills required in the National Curriculum. We aim to inspire children through a broad range of practical experiences to create innovative designs which solve problems. The iterative design process, repeating, tweaking and improving a product, is fundamental. This process encourages children to critically evaluate existing products and then design and create solutions to the problems. As part of the iterative process, time is built in to reflect, evaluate and improve on prototypes using design criteria throughout to support this process. The 5 areas of design and technology focus include food and nutrition, mechanisms ( cams, wheels and axels, pulleys, levers and linkages), textiles, strong structures and electrical systems.
